From the picture to the plate: between art, science and gastronomy
Coordinator: Sandra Fiore
Ufficio stampa CNR
Event conceived as part of the educational project 'Inside the art and science' (which took the start in 2012) edited by Dr. Sandra Fiore - Press Office of the National Research Council. The initiative aims to raise awareness of the wider public to Italian heritage preserved in museums, valuing and making known, at the same time, the scientific risults of the National Research Council in the food industry, agriculture and for the preservation of biodiversity.
On the occasion of the Expo 2015, the Pinacoteca di Brera, which houses one of the most important collections of works of art in Italy, opens its doors to the CNR researchers and experts in the history of gastronomy to offer to the public a series of debates whose main themes will be taken from a selection of masterpieces. Among them ‘Natura morta’ di Evaristo Baschenis, ‘La Pescivendola’ e ‘La venditrice di frutta’ di Vincenzo Campi, ‘Cena in casa di Levi’ di Paolo Veronese, ‘Cena in Emmaus’ di Caravaggio.
The event includes therefore the involvement of historians, who are asked to illustrate some selected paintings whose subject is the food, CNR researchers who expose their research and achievements in relation to the subject, entrepreneurs and associations that can bring their expertise about Italian culinary history. We also provide tastings inspired by the masterpieces. Debates are moderated by a journalist.
